Social Investment

At BCI Minerals, we are committed to investing in the Pilbara through initiatives that reflect our values and deliver meaningful outcomes for the local community. As proud members of the Karratha & District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KDCCI), we actively support local businesses and community development across the region.

We are proud to partner with Karratha Senior High School, providing funding for the Positive Behaviour Support Program, and to partially fund nursing and allied health scholarships through the Pilbara Kimberley University Centre. Through these initiatives, we aim to create social value and positive outcomes for the Pilbara community.

Aboriginal Engagement & Cultural Heritage

BCI acknowledges and has deep respect for the ongoing physical and spiritual connection Traditional Owners have to the land upon which we operate.

BCI recognises the importance of Native Title holders to give their free, prior, fully informed consent to its project activities. To achieve this objective, BCI has entered into comprehensive agreements with Native Title parties that provide for meaningful ongoing engagement, continued access to Country, compensation, and mutual benefits.

Working Collaboratively

BCI actively works with Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation to promote strong and cohesive communication between both companies, ensuring our obligations within our Land Access Deed, Cultural Heritage Management Plan and Indigenous Engagement Strategy are relevant, fit for purpose and culturally appropriate.

BCI adopts a best practice approach to ensure that Aboriginal heritage values associated with our projects are identified and managed in accordance with the requirements of Native Title parties. BCI ensures that, through collaborative processes with our Aboriginal partners, project designs are sensitive to Aboriginal connection and heritage values. We are committed to the delivery of knowledge by our Aboriginal partners to understand the history and culture of Traditional Owners to develop strong cultural awareness.

BCI meets bi-annually with Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) to discuss ongoing compliance within our Land Access Agreements and mutually beneficial initiatives. These include cultural awareness programs, capacity-building support sponsorships, and joint-venture prospects to help build their vision of a strong, self-determining corporation.

BCI is committed to fostering respectful and enduring relationships with Indigenous stakeholders by honouring cultural heritage, promoting collaborative decision-making, and supporting community-led initiatives. This commitment is demonstrated through the Company’s ongoing partnerships with WAC and the Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation (RRKAC).

In line with the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) requirements, BCI’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy (IES) guides how we engage with Traditional Owners and is reported on every six months following the commencement of project funding.

Through ongoing discussions with NAIF and the Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) Directors at bi-annual Implementation Committee meetings, it was recognised that the existing strategy needed to better reflect WAC’s perspectives, aspirations and leadership. In response, BCI has commenced a collaborative redesign of the IES, working closely with WAC to ensure the strategy is culturally appropriate, locally informed and shaped by Traditional Owner priorities.

The revised IES will align with WAC’s strategic vision and support greater self-determination by embedding Traditional Owner voices in decision-making. It reinforces BCI’s long-term commitment to meaningful engagement, shared outcomes, and positive social and economic participation for Native Title holders and the broader community.

BCI works in close partnership with Indigenous stakeholders to build relationships founded on respect, trust, and long-term collaboration.

BCI is committed to supporting the Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) to build capacity and strengthen self-determination, enabling the community to lead decision-making and shape its own future. To support this shared goal, BCI and WAC have established a Capacity Building Sponsorship Agreement that provides funding over a two-year period, delivered through four staged payments.

The agreement supports practical initiatives that build strong foundations for the future, including improved governance and compliance, stronger financial management, leadership development, and preparation for future reporting requirements and long-term succession planning. The proposed sponsorship is intended to directly contribute to this framework by:

  • Strengthening Aboriginal-led governance and decision-making
  • Enabling culturally and legally informed engagement with proponents
  • Supporting FPIC-aligned processes through capacity-building
  • Enhancing transparency and reporting to regulators and members
  • Building long-term capability within WAC, and
  • Supporting a part-time administrative employee
