BCI RAP

In an effort to support the wellbeing and efficiency of our workforce, BCI Minerals has recently launched an initiative to support its employees residing in Geraldton with an alternative transport route to Karratha.

The endeavour was made possible when Nexus Airlines commenced commercial flights from Geraldton and before implementing the change, BCI conducted a meticulous review process to ensure it would have no detrimental impact on the business or its individual employees.

Following this assessment, a trial was launched in August, with a review period scheduled for the end of December to evaluate the effect of this transportation approach.

The initiative has already received some incredible feedback from BCI staff living in Geraldton, with Process Operator Isoa Dakunimata expressing his gratitude for the company's efforts.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the thoughtful and professional gesture in facilitating a direct flight to work from Geraldton to Karratha and back for myself,” Mr Dakunimata said

The direct flight service between Geraldton and Karratha is already yielding several benefits for BCI Minerals, its employees, and the broader community.

The initiative significantly reduces the risk associated with one of the mining industry's highest-risk activities - long-distance driving.

The journey from Geraldton to Perth by road takes about 3.5 hours, but by providing direct flights, employees can avoid this lengthy commute.

BCI operations manager Alan Perry said removing the 3.5-hour journey each way also allowed employees to spend more quality time with their families.

“This improvement in work-life balance contributes to the well-being and job satisfaction of BCI Minerals' workforce,” Mr Perry said.

The direct flight service also creates additional employment opportunities for BCI through the Midwest and Gascoyne regions, contributing to economic growth and providing more choices for those seeking employment in the area.

Employees themselves benefit from cost savings through reduced fuel expenses, vehicle wear and tear, and bus charges that they would otherwise incur during the road journey.

Mr Perry said BCI’s commitment to its employees is exemplified by this initiative.

“It underscores the company's proactive and caring approach, demonstrating that we value our workforce and are willing to explore and implement options that support employee well-being,” he said.

Nexus Managing Director Michael McConachy said the airline was created to better connect Western Australia’s regions while increasing liveability for those living in the regions.

“It’s fantastic to see that BCI Minerals have been able to use our air services to create better efficiency for their staff, now that they have an alternative route to get their staff to Karratha without the need to fly into Perth,” Mr McConachy said.

“This is a positive outcome for the regions and their staff and one of the key reasons Nexus Airlines exists.

“We look forward to growing our relationship with BCI Minerals for years to come.”

As the trial period progresses and the end-of-year review approaches, BCI remains committed to refining and optimising this innovative transportation solution for the benefit of our workforce.
